- 1 slice Texas toast - 1 hamburger patty, approx. 4 oz (115 g) - 4 oz (115 g) French fries (fresh or frozen) - 1 tbsp (15 g) unsalted butter - 1 tbsp (8 g) all-purpose flour - 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk - 3/4 cup (3 oz / 85 g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated - 1 tsp (5 ml) vegetable oil - Salt and black pepper to taste
1. Cook the French fries according to package directions or until crisp; keep warm. 2. Season the hamburger patty with salt and pepper. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patty 3–4 minutes per side or until desired doneness; keep warm. 3. Make a small cheese sauce: melt butter in a small saucepan, whisk in flour and cook 30 seconds, whisk in milk and simmer until thickened, then remove from heat and stir in grated cheddar until smooth; season to taste. 4. Toast the Texas toast until golden. Place toast on a plate, top with the cooked hamburger patty, pile fries over the patty, and spoon cheese sauce over the fries. Serve immediately.
