- 2 slices Texas toast - 2 hamburger patties, approx. 6 oz (170 g) each - 12 oz (340 g) French fries (fresh or frozen) - 3 tbsp (45 g) unsalted butter - 3 tbsp (24 g) all-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) whole milk - 2 cups (8 oz / 225 g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated - 1 tbsp (15 ml) vegetable oil - 1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce - 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) garlic powder - Salt and black pepper to taste
1. Preheat oven and/or fryer and cook French fries to package directions or until golden and crisp; keep warm. 2. While fries cook, season hamburger patties with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook patties 3–4 minutes per side for medium (adjust to preferred doneness); tent with foil to keep warm. 3. Make cheese sauce: melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk in flour and cook 1 minute, slowly whisk in milk until smooth, simmer until slightly thickened, remove from heat and stir in grated cheddar until melted; season with salt and pepper and keep warm. 4. Toast Texas toast slices in a skillet or oven until golden and spreadable. 5. Assemble: place one toasted slice of Texas toast on each plate, top each with a hamburger patty, mound hot French fries over the patty, and ladle cheese sauce generously over the fries and toast. Serve immediately.
