- 4 slices (approx. 4 oz / 115 g) Taylor Ham (pork roll) - 1 large egg, approx. 50 g - 1 slice (approx. 0.7 oz / 20 g) American cheese or your preferred melty cheese - 1 hard roll or Kaiser roll, split, approx. 4 oz (115 g) - 1 tbsp (15 g) unsalted butter, softened - 1 tsp (5 ml) vegetable oil or neutral oil for pan-frying - Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Fry the Taylor Ham slices until edges are crisp and browned, about 2–3 minutes per side; remove and keep warm. In the same skillet, crack in the egg and cook to your preference (fried, over-easy, or scrambled), seasoning lightly with salt and pepper; during the last 30 seconds of cooking, place the cheese slice on the egg so it begins to melt. Meanwhile, spread butter on the cut sides of the roll and toast face-down in the pan until golden. 2. Assemble the sandwich by placing the fried Taylor Ham on the bottom roll, topping with the egg and melted cheese, and closing with the toasted top roll. Serve immediately while hot and melty.
